Potential buyers from David Hurr or Georgetown Homes in Northern Virginia beware.

Who am I?

I purchased a new home from David Hurr and Georgetown Homes in Northern Virginia (also operating under the names of Georgetown Construction Group, LLC and Georgetown Builders, Inc.). David Hurr, after receiving my money, ignored me and refused to honor my new home warranty, despite a very clear signed contract. Additionally, David Hurr lied to my face in the run-up to the closing on the property, saying he would fix things specified in his signed Inspection Removal Addendum. We have spoken to other customers of David Hurr and this was sadly their experience as well. David only began communicating with us after we filed a formal compliant with the Virginia Depart of Professional and Occupational Regulation, who license David. If you can avoid working with David and his company, I would highly recommend it.

Why did I stand up this webpage?

I want to provide any future buyers of this builder a channel to see a buyer’s review, given David Hurr has actively made it very difficult to access buyer reviews organically.

  1. Google by default makes reviews available to businesses. All builders I have interacted with have Google reviews for their businesses. I believe David Hurr purposefully turned off Google reviews for his business page https://georgetownva.com/home. This makes it impossible for unsatisfied customers like myself to provide reviews in this more traditional way.

  2. David Hurr refused to provide referrals from his previous buyers, and his reason was to protect the privacy of his buyers. This is also not normal in my experience, because all other builders I have contacted happily provided at least one referral contact.

  3. David picked two generic words “Georgetown” and “Homes” to form his company name, making it difficult for relevant information on his company to be searched.

What issues have we encountered after purchasing our new home from Georgetown Homes?

After purchasing our home, David Hurr and Georgetown Homes completely ignored us, despite a signed 1-year home warranty with detailed requirements on what is covered. Without David Hurr and his company responding, we were unable initiate any fixes with his sub-contractors, such as plumbers and electricians, because they all require David to initiate the work order under the 1-year builder warranty. Another customer has had a similar experience where the builder ignores their emails, phone calls, and even ignored a letter from a lawyer. Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation (DPOR) investigated David Hurr to potentially sanction or revoke his builder license or not renew it after June 4th 2024 when it expired. (Case Number 2024-00064). Additionally, we have pursued legal action against David Hurr as a result of his disregard of his contractual obligations.
